Aboriginal Applicants
Definition of Aboriginal Applicant - In accordance with the Constitution Act, 1982, Part II, Section 35(2), an aboriginal applicant is an Indian, Inuit or Métis person of Canada, or a person who is accepted by one of the Aboriginal Peoples of Saskatchewan (First Nations, Inuit, Métis) as a member of their community.
Certain colleges at the the U of S have received approval from the Human Rights Commission to provide access to a
defined number of spaces for applicants of aboriginal descent who are Saskatchewan residents
and meet the minimum admission requirements. Applicants will compete among themselves, not
against the entire applicant pool.
Proof of Aboriginal Ancestry for Admission
Proof of aboriginal ancestry may be required for the purpose of admission to certain programs in direct entry colleges and non direct entry colleges and schools at the University of Saskatchewan:
- Arts and Science1
- Edwards School of Business
- Dentistry
- Education
- Law
- Medicine
- Nursing
- Pharmacy and Nutrition
- Physical Therapy
- Western College of Veterinary Medicine
| For direct and non direct entry colleges, one of the following items may be submitted for review.1:

A certified copy of one of the following cards:
- Status or Treaty Card
- Métis Membership Card
- Nunavut Trust Certificate Card2.
Proof that an ancestor's name has been entered on one of these lists:
- Indian Register according to the Indian Act
- Inuit Roll
- individual band list
Evidence of an ancestor who received a land grant or a script grant under the:
- Manitoba Act
- Dominion Lands Act/Homestead Act
Written confirmation of:
- aboriginal ancestry from Indian and Northern Affairs Canada
- membership by a band council which has enacted its own band membership code

2. Roll number or any other proof accepted by the Inuit communities is also accepted for the purpose of admission
Proof of Aboriginal Ancestry for Entrance Awards
Please note that the proof of aboriginal ancestry accepted for the purpose of admission (as above) differs from what is accepted for the purpose of eligibility to receive certain entrance awards for aboriginal students. For the purposes of Competitive Entrance Awards, the following chart outlines what documentation is and is not accepted:
