What is Commerce?
The Bachelor of Commerce degree is designed to give students exposure to important business issues and management concepts in key areas such as organizational behaviour, business communications and decision making.

A Commerce degree prepares you to get ahead in the world of business. You will also be prepared to pursue graduate studies and obtain a Master of Business Administration, Master of Professional Accounting or Master of Science in Finance.
Career Opportunities
Students will be prepared to work in both Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal business settings. Past graduates have worked for their First Nations in Finance and Human Resources while others have gone on to careers in Marketing and Sales for non-Aboriginal companies. Others have established careers with accounting designations such as CA, CMA and CGA. Students with a Commerce education are in high demand.
There are exciting career opportunities for Commerce graduates of Aboriginal ancestry. Graduates will be ready for the board room, government, consulting, leading your own business, community economic development, professional accounting designations, marketing, human resource management and a variety of other opportunities in business. Aboriginal Commerce graduates are highly recruited.

Situated on the banks of the South Saskatchewan River, Saskatoon is the province’s largest and most vibrant city with a large and growing Aboriginal population. Saskatoon is home to Aboriginal government offices, an urban reserve, Aboriginal economic development and a lively Aboriginal arts community. Wanuskewin Heritage Park, which showcases Aboriginal art and history, has a partnership between Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal people and the University of Saskatchewan.

Choose Your Program!
Students apply directly into the Bachelor of Commerce degree program. The Bachelor of Commerce degree is a four-year direct entry program. There are a variety of majors in all areas of business. Students decide on their major in their second year of study. The majors include:
Accounting - Preparation for a career as a CA, CMA, CGA or other professional accounting designations.
Biotechnology Management - Biotechnology is the application of biological science to improve the lives of humans and quality of the environment. This rapidly expanding industry has created management positions available in research, development and commercialization of products derived from biotechnology.
Finance - Corporate finance, financial services, financial planning, investments and risk management are a few of the fields open to finance graduates.
Human Resource Management - This major prepares you for management of human resources, organizational behaviour and industrial relations.
Management - Students can select courses from all of the business functional groups gaining breadth and depth in management. Courses can be stream-lined within pre-defined management schemes.
Marketing - Advertising, international marketing, public relations and sales are just some of the areas you can explore with this major.
Operations Management - This major focuses on service operations management and includes topics such as distribution, logistics, purchasing, quality control and warehousing.
Aboriginal Student Services
RAWLCO Resource Room - The College of Commerce provides a student centre in the Office Wing of the ground floor of the College of Commerce. Students gather to study, meet other students, and enjoy a cup of coffee or eat their lunch. Books, newspapers and other resources are available. Computers and telephones are located in this room for student use.
Aboriginal Commerce Student Services - Aboriginal Commerce students have access to all of the University of Saskatchewan’s student services. In addition, specific bursary and tutor assistance is available. Throughout the year, there are opportunities for traditional ceremonies, Elder services, speakers and professional development opportunities.
Director of Aboriginal Business Education Programs - The Director of Aboriginal Business Education Programs is responsible for recruitment, advancement and organization of strategies for undergraduate and graduate programs in the College. The Director also ensures Aboriginal students have the support and services they require to ensure their success in the College of Commerce. The Director is regularly available to Aboriginal students in the RAWLCO Resource Room located in the Office Wing of the ground floor of the College of Commerce.
Getting Involved!
The
Aboriginal Business Students Society’s (ABSS) mandate is to support and enhance positive awareness of Aboriginal business issues within the University and community. The ABSS strives to foster and build a strong relationship between the Aboriginal business community and its members.
