What is Linguistics?
Linguistics studies the basic nature of human language:

Getting Involved
Linguistics Club and Linguistics Lunch Hour give students an opportunity to learn more about the specific features of languages and cultures, interact with other students and professors, and discuss their experiences with linguistics courses and learning languages.
Undergraduate students enrolled in the honours program, as well as graduate students, present their research results in Research Colloquia, which are open to anyone interested.

Our faculty are dedicated to their teaching and their students. Veronika Makarova, Program Chair, was the recipient of the Teaching Excellence Award from the College of Arts and Science in 2009.
Our students have a high success rate in their applications for graduate programs in linguistics, applied linguistics, and language and speech pathology.
